ENHANCING SAFETY THROUGH TRAINING AND COLLABORATION

The Lycoming County Fire Police Association unites fire police across the county to promote teamwork, enhance safety, and provide essential training. Fire police play a vital role in ensuring the safety of first responders and the public at accident scenes, fires, and emergencies, as well as at public gatherings and community events. Through collaboration and education, we strengthen fire company coordination and preparedness. We meet at 7pm on the third Wednesday of every other month at one of our county fire stations, on a rotating schedule

SLOW DOWN,
MOVE OVER,
AND SAVE LIVES

IT'S THE LAW

SLOW DOWN, MOVE OVER, AND SAVE LIVES

IT'S THE LAW

Pennsylvania’s Slow Down and Move Over law is designed to protect emergency responders, tow truck operators, and road crews working along the roadside. This law is critical to ensure that every first responder and roadside worker goes home safe.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • If you see flashing lights, flares, or warning signs, move over to a lane away from the emergency response area.
  • If moving over isn’t possible, slow down to at least 20 mph below the posted speed limit.

WHO IT PROTECTS

  • Police, Firefighters, EMTs, Tow Truck Operators, Utility Workers, and Road Crews

PENALTIES FOR VIOLATING THE LAW

  • First offense: Up to $500 fine
  • Repeat offenses: Higher fines and possible license suspension
  • If someone is injured or killed: Severe fines and potential imprisonment

PAY ATTENTION TO THESE SIGNS

These signs alert you that there are first responders ahead. When you see them, slow down and move over if possible. It may save a life!
